Bidzina Ivanishvili: "Georgian Dream" not to seek for impeachment of Saakashvili
The ruling coalition "Georgian Dream" does not intend to raise the issue of impeachment of Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili. However, it is possible that the coalition will speed up the entry into force of amendments to the Constitution, specifying the powers of the President. This was reported by Bidzina Ivanishvili, Prime Minister of Georgia.
According to Bidzina Ivanishvili, the leader of the coalition "Georgian Dream", a five-year presidential term of Mikhail Saakashvili expires in January 2013; however, the Parliament of earlier convocation adopted constitutional amendments, in accordance with which the next presidential election would be held in October 2013. "In this regard, there are questions on the Constitution of Georgia," Bidzina Ivanishvili has noted at the press conference.
"The international community very negatively reacted to my offer on resignation of Mikhail Saakashvili. Constitutional amendments might be adopted, and already adopted constitutional amendments that limit the powers of the President will enter into force after the completion of the five-year presidential term of Mikhail Saakashvili," Bidzina Ivanishvili said.
According to the Prime Minister, the coalition "Georgian Dream" can obtain in the Parliament more than 100 required votes to speed up the entry into force of the adopted constitutional amendments.
