Villagers of Georgian Samtatskaro demand to open Georgian-Azerbaijani bridge
Residents of the village of Samtatskaro, Dedoplistskaroy District of Georgia, located on the Georgian-Azerbaijani border, held an action demanding to open the bridge that connects the two countries.
The bridge is closed for motor traffic for four years already. According to local residents, when it was closed, border guards explained that it was done in order to combat contraband.
"The bridge is under frontier police, who controls the crossing. We are forbidden to go to Azerbaijan by cars – only on foot. We have relatives there; and we can't see them. We have to walk for seven kilometres," the "Georgia Online" quotes Sandro Khiladze, one of the protesters, a villager of Samtatskaro.
According to local residents, now you can drive to Azerbaijan along the bypass road Tsnori-Lagodekhi, which is rather expensive, the "Tbilisi Week" writes.
