Prosecutor demands to re-qualify Mirzaev's accusation and release him

Today, during the parties' debate, the prosecutor has asked to re-qualify the charge in the case of the athlete Rasul Mirzaev, after whose punch a Moscow student Ivan Agafonov had died, to a softer one – "causing death by negligence", sentence the defendant to two years of freedom restraint and release him from custody.

In the course of the debates at the Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow, the prosecutor demanded to count the term, already served by Rasul Mirzaev, into his punishment and release him right in the courtroom.

Earlier, representatives of the suffered party had found the court's decision to terminate the trial unjustified, since, in their view, not all the circumstances of the case had been cleared out, and the expertise had failed to give specific answers to all questions.

The suffered party expressed fear that the court could re-qualify the charge to a softer one, as Oksana Mikhalkina and Matvey Tszen, the lawyers for Agafonov's family, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Alexei Grebenskoy, the defendant's advocate has declined to comment.
