Stavropol Territory: court sentences defendant in case of rape of child to 15 years of imprisonment
Today, the court sentenced a resident of Budennovsk, who was found guilty of raping a nine-year-old girl, to 15 years of imprisonment in high security colony. This was reported by Violetta Bondareva, the head of the united press service of the courts of the Stavropol Territory.
On April 20, 2011, a girl patient was kidnapped from the hospital of Budennovsk and raped. On April 21, Evgeny Vorotyntsev, a city resident, was detained on suspicion of committing a crime. The trial on the case was held behind closed doors. On October 25, the jury considered the evidence, collected by investigators, sufficient to find the defendant guilty.
"Evgeny Vorotyntsev was sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment to be served in high security penal colony, with deprivation of the right to be engaged in activities, related to pre-school child care, education, recreation and rehabilitation of children for 12 years, and with the restraint of liberty for a term of 1 year and 6 months," the "Caucasian Knot" was told by Violetta Bondareva.
According to her, the sentence was imposed on the basis of the guilty verdict of the jurors, who found no grounds for leniency.
"There is no information on whether the parties are going to appeal against the verdict," added the spokesperson.
Earlier, Evgeny Vorotyntsev pleaded not guilty, and his lawyer Lyudmila Aivazova noted that the case against the defendant had been fabricated.
