Relatives of Khutum villager in Dagestan report on his detention by policemen

Today, the house of Rano Karabekov, a resident of the village of Khutum of the Magaramkent District, was searched, and after that, Rano Karabekov was detained and brought to the local police station. This was reported by Gulnara Rustamova, a representative of the Dagestani regional public organization "Pravozaschita" (Advocacy).

Imirat Shikhbabaeva, who appealed for help to human rights defenders, reported that morning, her household was invaded by armed men in masks. This was reported by Gulnara Rustamova.

"In the house, there were Rano Karabegov, a son of the hostess, and his two wives Naira and Kamilla, and their three children. According to the relatives, Rano was earlier invited to the police station and asked various questions to the religious theme. He visited policemen by their invitations and even tried to call them to religion. That is, he never hided and always calmly talked to law enforcement officers on a variety of topics," said the representative of the Dagestani regional public organization "Pravozaschita".

According to Imirat Shikhbabaeva, the street, where the house is located, was completely cordoned off by cars and armoured vehicles, and, during the search in the house and the yard, grenades and drugs were planted to the barn, and after that, Rano Karabegov was brought to the ROVD (District Interior Division) of the Magaramkent District.

Till present, the relatives of the detainee are at the walls of the Magaramkent ROVD. They demand to allow the lawyer visiting the detainee; however, their demands do not succeed. This was reported by Gulnara Rustamova.

Officials from the unit on duty of the Magaramkent ROVD confirmed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that Rano Karabegov had been brought to the ROVD.
