Director of Ksani prison in Georgia tendered his resignation
Nukri Khuhia, Director of penal colony No 15 in the settlement of Ksani, Central Georgia, submitted a report of resignation after disturbances among the convicts that started in the penal facility.
It should be reminded that the convicts of the colony are holding actions of protest against the present administration of the penal facility. Some of them sewed up their mouths demanding to replace the management of the colony.
“I submitted the report and if it is granted I will resign”, Nukri Khuhia said to “Caucasus-Press” media agency.
Khuhia was appointed Director of penal colony No 15 after the new Government was formed in Georgia. Two thousand convicts went on a hunger strike demanding his discharge, “Novosti-Georgia” reports.
“At the moment the situation in the colony is calm on the whole but thirteen convicts are continuing the action. Their mouths are sewed up and they demand improvement of prison conditions and medical aid”, representative of non-governmental organization “42nd caluse of the Constitution” Nino Dzhandieri said on the air of “Maestro” TV company.
The state of convict David Minasov who tried to cut his throat and rejected medical aid remains grave. According to the convict’s sister, he did not let the physicians put in the stitches.
