Militants' base found in Chechnya

The regional headquarters on the counterterrorist operation in the North Caucasus reported on Tuesday that a base of militants was found in Chechnya.

"In the course of reconnaissance actions in the environs of the Stariy Achkhoy populated area, Chechnya's Achkhoy-Martan district, a subunit of the federal forces found a base of participants in the bandit underground. The militants' base consisted of two dug-outs with the accommodation capacity of up to 10 people each, places for cooking food and for meals, and four combat security trenches situated along the perimeter of the base," a headquarters official said.

According to him, 800 cartridges of the 5.45-mm caliber, 140 rounds for the VOG-17 underbarrel grenade-launcher, 4 sleeping-bags of the military pattern, 5 sets of Russian summer camouflage uniform, medicines, and durable canned foodstuffs were found during the examination of the base.

"The bandits' ammunition and property have been destroyed. A search for individuals who hid at this base has been organized," the source emphasized.
