Stavropol commemorates Holocaust victims

In Stavropol, in the Russian Forest, near the monument to tortured and executed Soviet citizens, a rally was held in memory of Holocaust victims. The event took place on August 19 at the initiative of the Jewish community of the Stavropol Territory.

The rally was dated to the 70th anniversary of execution by Nazis of peaceful Soviet citizens during the fascist occupation of Southern Russia. The participants of the rally commemorated 27,000 Jews killed in the Stavropol Territory during the Nazi occupation, the STRC "Stavropolye" reports.

The audience listened to a story about the Holocaust in Northern Caucasus, an eyewitness of the events of 1942 and calls not to forget the history of the country, the portal "1777.ru" writes.

The rally ended with a minute of silence; candles were lit; and Alexander Nesterov, Chief Rabbi of the Stavropol Territory read a memorial prayer.
