Chlous constituency to hold second round of early election to Abkhazian Parliament

On July 22, two out of three candidates, who ran for the Chlous constituency No. 26 in the Ochamchira District of Abkhazia, won most of the votes and passed over to the second round, namely: the businessman Beslan Butba, the leader of the Party of Economic Development of Abkhazia; and Beslan Tarba, the deputy head of the State Administration of Abkhazia for Transports and Communications.

Apart from Beslan Tarba and Beslan Butba, the third candidate was Apollon Shinkuba, a member of the opposition party "People's Unity Forum of Abkhazia".

Out of the 2804 voters put on the voter list, 2040 people cast their ballots. 920 voters were in favour of Beslan Butba; Beslan Tarba won 647 votes, and Apollon Shinkuba – 441 votes. 32 ballots were declared invalid.

Since no candidate has won the required number of votes (50 percent + 1 vote of the total number of voters), the second round was appointed. By the law, it must be held in two weeks.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Abkhazia that no complaints or violations were registered.

The election in the 26th constituency was held because of a sudden death of the MP Timur Logua.
