Authorities demand to liquidate volunteers' camp in central Krymsk

The administration of the Krymsk District has demanded from volunteers to abandon the tent camp set up in the city centre. About 200 volunteers are packing up their things.

Let us remind you that earlier the leaders of the Krasnodar Territory decided to take control over all humanitarian aid already received and now arriving to the victims of the flood in Krymsk and to liquidate all the spontaneous volunteers' centres that emerged in the city. The authorities explain this decision by safety considerations; however, many volunteers and local bloggers find the attempt to take control a strange one.

Some volunteers are leaving Krymsk

"Yesterday, on July 16, we were gathered near the administration and prescribed to leave - by 8:00 p.m. on July 17 - the centre of the city and move to the outskirts to the highway running towards Slavyansk-on-Kuban. It was announced in such manner as if they no longer need volunteers' help. But we know that this is not the case," said Anton Smirnov, the coordinator of the central camp.

According to his story, their camp is situated very close to the streets where flood victims live; and every day they were addressed by some 100-150 people with a request to provide help. The new location, according to Smirnov, is three times farther; and volunteers will have to walk for half an hour, since they have no cars.

"Moreover, we were told that the reason of relocation was in complaints received from local residents that they have nowhere to rest. It's very abrasive to hear this," said Smirnov.

The volunteers all the night discussed the situation and decided today that they will not resist and move to the new location.

"Of course, some of us, having learnt that their help is no longer needed, decided to go home. Others are packing up and moving," said the coordinator of the camp. Nobody can tell now how the work with the population will be organized at the new place, the "Gazeta.ru" writes.

Earlier, the work of volunteers was highly praised by the Minister for Emergencies Vladimir Puchkov.

Currently, both the authorities and volunteers working in Krymsk report that the city still badly needs, above all, shovels, rakes, pitchforks, wheelbarrows for transporting garbage, buckets, high boots, construction materials, as well as bedding, dishware and other kitchen utensils. According to locals, they are also experiencing a severe shortage of medicines: drugs against high blood tension and flue, antiseptics and bandaging materials.

Cossacks and police will jointly patrol settlements of Krymsk District

The Police Lieutenant-General Vladimir Vinevsky, the head of the Chief Department for the Krasnodar Territory of the Russian MIA, and the Cossack General Nikolai Doluda, Deputy Head of the Administration of the Krasnodar Territory and Ataman of the Kuban Cossack Army, have decided to jointly patrol - by interior units and Cossack formations - Krymsk and the Krymsk District to maintain public order.

Apart from patrolling, Cossacks will help the police to prosecute the perpetrators and offenders.
