In Georgia, Labour Party demands to postpone or cancel payment of population's debts to banks

Today, in Tbilisi, in front of the presidential palace, the Labour Party held a protest action, demanding to postpone or cancel population's debts to banks.

Paata Djibladze, Executive Secretary of the Labour Party, stated at the protest action that he advised President Mikhail Saakashvili to enquire about the fate of the citizens, impoverished because of banks.

"20,000 families have been already driven out of their homes. More 60,000 families face risk to remain without their homes, since their cases have already been brought to the Executive Office. And add to that number other 300,000 persons, put on the black list. We urge Mikhail Saakashvili to really enquire about the fate of people, to bridle his banks and to perform restructuring of bank debts. Otherwise, the Labour Party will hold a massive protest action," the "Business-Georgia" quotes Paata Djibladze as saying.

A day earlier, on July 9, at the press conference, Georgy Gugava, Political Secretary of the Labour Party, promised that in the event if the Labour Party comes to power, it will impose "a tax on the rich persons."

"In Georgia, widespread mass poverty, unemployment, and hopelessness are caused by the predatory policies of the authorities and criminal oligarchs, tied with them, who unlawfully appropriated and monopolized the wealth of the country," the "Georgia Online" quotes Georgy Gugava as saying.
