Krymsk residents: no one warned us of danger

Residents of the city of Krymsk of the Krasnodar Territory claim that they had not been warned of possible flooding. According to the local residents, they are provided with assistance, and they are supplied with food products and water.

"No one warned us of possible flooding"

"Absolutely no one warned us. They should have warned people, since they knew that the water would go up. The electricity supply was switched off at 9:00 p.m. When a wave came, people jumped from windows and fled to escape to roofs. Water went up at 1:00 a.m., and it rose up to 1.7 meters," the "Caucasian Knot" was told by Elena and Yuri Gerbut, living in Sovietskaya Street.

"Mobile phones did not work I could not get through 'Beeline' or MTS communications were cut off the. At about 12 a.m., I went to the river there were no signs of impending disaster, the river was clean, and everything was all right. I entered home and heard a roar from the basement. The roar was terrible, as though the house would be torn to parts," said Alexander, a local resident, who refused to mention his surname.

According to the man, they are supplied with water and food products; however, they are short of foot wear.

"For several days, we had no bread, it was delivered from Abinsk and Slavyansk," said Sergey Polyanin, a local resident. He argues that no one warned people of the impending flooding. "I switched on local radio 105.7 FM, it broadcasted nothing, just a hiss," stated the man. According to him, during the flooding, he spent on a tree several hours starting from 3:30 a.m. till 9:00 a.m., and he could die, if a boat, floating by, did not rescue him.

"On Sunday, July 8, there were three "Magnet" long trucks, full of bodies"

"They should have warned us in at least half an hour. A single alert was not enough, they should have warned us, what kind of flooding to expect to know what roof to climb at. They rendered assistance," said Semen Rezopulo. Anna Semenovna, his mother, a labour veteran, perished in the flooding.

According to blogger Mikhail Abramyan, who has relatives and friends in Krymsk, real death toll is at least ten times higher than officially announced. "The bodies are driven away by trucks. If after that Alexander Tkachov does not leave his position of the governor, ordinary people can nothing to do in this country," the blogger believes.

Meanwhile, on July 9, Sergey Mironov, the leader of the "Spravedlivaya Rossiya" (Fair Russia), stated that at the meeting of the faction he would consider the issue on necessity of appealing to Russian President Vladimir Putin to demand to dismiss Alexander Tkachov. Earlier, Ilya Yashin, co-Chairman of the movement "Solidarity", demanded to dismiss the Governor of Kuban in connection with the tragedy in Krymsk. However, local experts believe that the demand to dismiss Alexander Tkachov in connection with the flooding in Krymsk is hopeless.

"We arrived when we could"

According to the city residents, they are rendered with assistance drinking water and packed food products are being supplied to them, and volunteers arrived.

On Monday, July 9, 20 workers from the Abinsk electrometallurgical plant arrived. And immediately they began to help local residents they remove mud and dirt with shovels.

"We came as far as it was possible, since we cannot stop production process, too. We do not know yet, where we will spend the night, they said that they would brought us bus to accommodate us. We arrived for a week," said one of the workers.

Meanwhile, officials from the administration of the Krasnodar Territory have stated that Kuban "faces a lack of hands" to restore the Krymsk District, affected by the flooding. The administration established a volunteer centre to attract and coordinate volunteers.
