Swimming in the town pond of Elista prohibited after catching a fish that looked like piranha
Amateur fishermen caught a fish looking like piranha in Kolon pond of Elista. For this reason swimming in the pond was prohibited.
The dangerous fish was passed to competent bodies to clarify the circumstances.
In the experts' opinion, the piranha got into the pond after it was reared in an aquarium, then some negligent amateur could have let it out, web-site of Elista Administration reports.
Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported that in 2008 fishermen caught a South American paca, piranha's herbivorous kin, in the Akhtuba river of the neighbouring Volgograd region. According to the ecologists, the colonizer could get into the basin of the Volga with ballast waters of foreign vessels.
A big piranha of one kilogram weight was caught in a town beach in the neighbourhood of Volgograd last June, "Komsomolskaya Pravda" reports.
