KBR resident claims attempt of illegal detention of her son

Rimma Kashezheva, a resident of the city of Baksan, appealed to the Ombudsman in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), the Republic's Human Rights Centre and the Office of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" in Kabardino-Balkaria because of her fears for the life of her son Timur.

In her letter to the human rights organizations, the Baksan resident states that on June 27, Timur Kashezhev left the house to take his child to kindergarten. When they approached the kindergarten No. 3, located in Budyonny Street in Baksan, a VAZ-2114 car of silver colour with tinted windows stopped next to them.

According to Rimma Kashezheva, two men in civilian clothes, armed with pistols, came out of the car. The unidentified men shouted: "Halt or we'll shoot!"

"My son ran into the territory of the kindergarten. They chased him. My son managed to escape chasing. He was saved by the fact that the place was crowded. Many people have witnessed the incident. Besides, there were many children in the yard of the kindergarten," the letter states.

Rimma Kashezheva has also told the human rights defenders that in the summer of 2011, Timur Kashezhev had already been detained by men in masks. They drove him away out of town and severely beat him.

"They asked him about the persons, who were put on the wanted list for their terror activities, and asked him, whether he had friends among them, etc. Then, they released him and threatened with punishment if he reported on the incident. We had not appealed to anywhere, hoping that the prosecution would stop, and we feared that the publicity could only aggravate the situation," Rimma Kashezheva stated.

According to her, Timur Kashezhev was not involved in unlawful acts, and he had never been prosecuted for law violations, and that "he had no worries other than his family and his work."

In his letter to the human rights defenders, the woman has emphasized that her son "prays, and the entire situation is connected with his religious beliefs." She asks the human rights defenders "to assist in the protection of life, human dignity, and constitutional rights of her son."

According to Zaur Shokuev, a lawyer from the Human Rights Centre, the letter was brought to the Prosecutor's Office of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) to take measures. Rimma Kashezheva also appealed to the Investigatory Department of the Investigatory Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) in the KBR.
