In Chechnya, policemen cut away beards of young people, local resident asserts

At least two residents of the Urus-Martan District of Chechnya have suffered in an attack of police officers from the local ROVD (District Interior Division), who forcibly shaved off beards and hairs on the heads of young men. This was reported by a friend of the victims. The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the Chechen Republic does not comment on that information.

"About two weeks ago, young men were caught in the street near the ROVD of the Urus-Martan District. Police officers forcibly cut off hairs and beards of young men and left their moustaches untouched. After bullying, they released young men," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by a source, who preferred to remain anonymous.

According to him, the young men live in the village of Tangi-Chu.

"Men, their relatives and friends were greatly offended," the source clarified.

Officers from the press service of the MIA of the Chechen Republic initially told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that was "the first time they heard about the incident" and asked for time to clarify information. Half an hour later, another police officer reported that the Regional Branch of the MIA would not comment on that information.
