Iskenderov: 25 stores in Baku are licensed to sell religious books

In Azerbaijan, the process is underway of registering bookshops selling religious literature; in Baku, 25 such shops have received such licenses. At the same time, the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations is drafting proposals aimed at simplification of the import into the republic of sacred books, said Elshad Iskenderov, the head of the Committee.

"Very often at entrances to metro stations we can see that the sacred books are sold in unprepared and unworthy places. Our efforts are aimed at ensuring the proper forms of selling religious literature, which reflect our national and spiritual values. The shops selling religious literature should have attractive appearance; and the literature sold there should be healthy," the "1news.az" quotes the head of the Committee.

Mr Iskenderov has also reported that his State Committee is drafting a proposal to facilitate the import of sacred books to Azerbaijan. According to his story, if the Koran and other holy books are brought into the territory of the republic with no translation, comments and footnotes, they can be imported without any additional control, the "Trend" reports.
