Georgian Control Chamber suspects ruling party of bribing voters
The Service to monitor financial activities of political associations of the Georgian Control Chamber appealed to the Prosecutor's Office with a recommendation to check information on the ruling party's financing of medical services to the population of the city of Samtredia.
They refer to the TV show of the "Maestro" TV Channel, in which Levan Pkhakadze, a representative of "United National Movement", a shareholder of the "Wissol" Oil Company, on behalf of the government promises to residents of the district centre of Samtredia (Western Georgia) financial assistance for medical care.
The Control Chamber was informed of that fact by the NGO "Public Defender", the "Georgia Online" reports.
"We believe that the actions of the mentioned person contain features of a crime under Article 164 of Article 164 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which stipulate a penalty in the form of fine or imprisonment of up to three years," stated a staff member of the "Public Defender" on June 14.
In its turn, on June 15, the Control Chamber urged law enforcement agencies to conduct checks to identify possible violations.
The Monitoring Service will continue to examine the circumstances mentioned in the material of the TV Channel, the "News-Georgia" reports.
