58% of consumers in Armenia are not aware of law protecting their rights
Despite the fact that the Law "On Protection of Consumers' Rights" was passed by the Armenian National Assembly a year ago, some 58% of respondents are not aware of its existence. Journalists learnt it from Melita Akopian, chairwoman of the National Association of Consumers, when she summed up the program to raise public awareness of this law. According to her, the damage caused to a consumer when he/she is sold low-quality goods and services must be indemnified. But both consumers and sellers do not often know it. It was also noted that the monitoring of the food trade in Yerevan had showed most the goods had no appropriate marking.
At the same time, the list of expired goods has reduced considerably, which is not an achievement of the state, but a result of raising consumers' awareness.
