Case on deportation of Turks-Meskhetians from Krasnodar Territory - details

The Krasnodar Territorial Court declared admissible an appeal against the decision by the Anapa City Court on the deportation of two Turks-Meskhetians, Lufty and Ridvan Muradov, from the Russian Federation. The lawyer of the accused men, Vladimir Gaidash of the Krasnodar human rights NGO "Good Deed", announced it.

Sarvar Tedorov, a representative of the Turkish-Meskhetian community, confirms the intention of the entire community to assert their rights to the end. According to him, this case is the first one in the Kuban region when a decision on deportation is made against Turks-Meskhetians, and it is very important not to allow to create a precedent undesirable for the community.

Vadim Karastelev, leader of the known human rights NGO "School of Peace", explained that there was no legal foundation to fulfill the decision on deportation. The people in question are not citizens of Uzbekistan, from where they arrive in Russia in 1989. They have no Russian citizenship and still use passports of citizens of the USSR.

Local human rights defenders are ready to voice their stance in the given situation. As for the forecasts by local experts, they think the territorial court will not allow the appeal and possible claims to the European Court seem to be ineffective as they will take a lot of time. Besides, regional associations of Cossacks are preparing an appeal to the Governor in which they demand that strict measure to expel the Turks-Meskhetians from the region be taken.
