Capital of Kalmykia starts charity action "Stretch out your helping hand"

In Elista, the capital of Kalmykia, the Foundation named "Miloserdiye" (Mercy), located in the temple-chapel of St Sergius of Radonezh, is gathering clothes, stationery items and toys for children from poor and needy families. Gifts for September 1 will be also brought to the Elista orphanage for mentally retarded children and social shelter.

Humanitarian help has been already rendered to several families who could not independently prepare their children for school. The campaign will last until late September; in this context, the Kalmyk Eparchy asked residents of the republic to take part in it.

On the eve of the new school year, the Shadjin Lama of Kalmykia Telo Tulku Rinpoche congratulated teachers, pupils and students with the Day of Knowledge.

"We live in the world full of obstacles and barriers," his greeting message runs. "However, all the obstacles may be removed by the force of knowledge.

Knowledge is a source of deep peace of mind and happiness in life. Knowledge brings wisdom, which will illuminate our path through years."
