Abkhazia rejects concept of protection of Russians' property rights

As stated by Sergey Shamba, head of the Abkhazian government, the authorities of Abkhazia have refused to consider the concept concerning the property rights of the Russians living in the republic.

According to Shamba, he was unaware about this concept in general until he read the article entitled "Conception as Alternative of Return of Georgian Refugees", published in the Abkhazian newspaper "Nuzhnaya" (Wanted) on August 17, 2010. The author treated the draft of the concept developed by the joint Abkhazian-Russian commission as anti-Abkhazian.

The author of the article accused the leadership of Abkhazia of non-observance of national interests. In the opinion of the journalist, in case of approval, the concept will set up conditions for return to the republic of thousands the Georgian refugees, who had left Abkhazia in the course of the armed conflict in early 1990s and who will claim their lost property.

"Having asked about the draft concept at the President's Administration, I found out that it was received from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs without any registration number and accompanying letter. It's not clear whose offer it was. The draft was rejected at once as not deserving any discussion," the Abkhazian Agency "Asnypress" quotes Mr Shamba as saying.

So far, there are no comments on the document of the Russian party.
