Karimov: Kadyrov did not file new suits against "Memorial" leader

Ramzan Kadyrov did not file any new claims against Oleg Orlov, head of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial". This was stated by Alvi Karimov, press secretary of the President of Chechnya, who confirmed that Kadyrov had recalled his claim against Orlov on his mother's request.

Let us remind you that today Oleg Orlov was summoned to the UVD (Interior Department) for the Central Administrative District of Moscow at the Investigatory Department. According to his story, he was informed there that the criminal case initiated against him under parts 2 and 3, Articles 129 - slander of President of Chechnya - was delivered from the inquiry division of the GUVD (Chief Interior Department) to the Moscow City Prosecutor's Office. The term of investigation of this case expires on July 3, and inspector Khatchenkova told him that the term would be, most probably, extended.

"I want to reconfirm that this February Ramzan Ahmatovich Kadyrov followed his mother's request and recalled his claims against Orlov and other persons. No claims have been filed against Orlov ever since," Alvi Karimov said in his interview to the "Echo Moskvy" Radio.

According to his story, Orlov and his advocate should have undertaken certain legal formalities connected with reconciliation of the parties in order to stop all the cases.

"Despite the efforts of Kadyrov's lawyer, these steps were not taken; therefore, inspectors do what they should under the law," the press secretary has explained.

Meanwhile, recently inspector Yulia Khatchenkova had a meeting with Andrei Krasnenkov, Kadyrov's lawyer, as Oleg Orlov told the "Novaya Gazeta". He noted that during this meeting "not a single word was said about Mr Kadyrov's intention to stop the criminal case." The head of the HRC "Memorial" does not exclude that his freedom may be restricted.
