Pyatigorsk will have a monument of unity of Caucasian nations
Valery Gaevskiy, Governor of the Stavropol Territory, made an offer to the famous sculptor Zurab Tsereteli to erect a monument of unity of the Caucasian nations in Pyatigorsk, the capital of the newly formed North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD).
"I'm absolutely convinced that the language of art, which touches delicate strings of human soul, has a much greater peacemaking and creative potential than many political steps. And it's still better, when politicians and artists, and the whole healthy public are tuned in unison," the official website of the executive authority of the region quotes Mr Gaevskiy as saying.
In his turn, Mr Tsereteli said, at closing his exhibition, held for a month in Stavropol, that the Academy of Arts is now preparing three variants of a monument for Serbia, which is so variable by its ethnic structure. As to the Caucasus, as he said, "there are many unifying symbols, and the members of the Academy will undertake to realize creative embodiment of them", as the RBC writes.
