Adzharia demolishes a monument to WWII victims

In Georgia, another monument to the casualties of World War II was dismantled. This was reported by the oppositional party "Movement for Fair Georgia" headed by ex-prime minister Zurab Nogaideli.

"A couple of days ago, local authorities dismantled a monument in honour of perished soldiers in Dioknisi village of Adzharia and put it into a cellar of the kindergarten," reports the press service of the Party.

The "Caucasian Knot" reported that on December 19, 2009, the Memorial of Glory was blown up in Kutaisi. As a result of poor organization of the demolition works two persons - a woman and her eight-year-old daughter were lost. Some other persons were wounded. They plan to erect a building of the parliament instead.

After blowing up the Kutaisi Memorial, local governors started "demonstrating initiative to please President Mikhail Saakashvili," Peter Mamradze, secretary general of the "Movement for Fair Georgia", told the "Interfax".

According to his story, foreign press, including Russian media, were surely negative as to the demolition of the "Memorial of Glory".

"Mayor of one of cities in Norway asks whether Nazism revives in Georgia. The Israeli press was extremely negative," Mr Mamradze said.
