Terror act kills three and wounds six in Gali District of Abkhazia

One employee of the criminal inquiry unit of the Gali District Interior Division was lost and his four colleagues were wounded as a result of a terror act committed today in the village of Chuburkhindzh, Gali District. Besides, two civilians were killed and three wounded.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent learnt from Beslan Arshba, head of the administration of the Gali District, the incident happened at about 1:40 p.m. Moscow time. Earlier in this village, a local family was exposed to an armed assault, and criminal search agents arrived at the venue. However, after arrival they blew themselves up by the mines planted around the house; presumably, the mines were remotely triggered.

As a result of the explosion, agent Eduard Kubrava and two local residents - a man and a woman - were killed in place. Two militiamen are in a grave condition, and two more have medium-gravity wounds. Mr Arshba said that they were brought to the Sukhumi Republic's Hospital and the Agudzeri Military Hospital.

The Prosecutor's Office of the Gali District has initiated a criminal case. The law enforcement bodies of Abkhazia regard the incident as a terror act against district militiamen.
