Astrakhan oceanologists place artificial coral reefs on Red Sea bottom
The action of setting up artificial coral reefs to the bottom of Red Sea was held within the agenda of the International Festival "Artificial Reeves-2009" by experts of the Caspian Branch of the Oceanology Institute under the request of Egyptian ecologists.
"The aim of this international forum is in drawing attention of the world community to the problem of biodiversity preservation and purity of tropical sea ecosystems. These systems are under a powerful anthropogenous pressure of the tourist industry," Vladimir Ushivtsev, candidate of biology and head of the Branch, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
Nikita Vodovskiy, an employee of the Branch, has noticed that the tourist industry inflicts essential harm to marine ecosystems. In water areas of some beaches we see desertificated bottom. By assurances of Astrakhan oceanologists, artificial reefs built in small depths near beaches will restore coral islands, where sea inhabitants will return.
