Astrakhan oceanologists' project highly estimated at the Caspian Innovations Forum

One of the best projects presented at the exhibition of the Caspian Innovations Forum held in the city of Astrakhan was recognized to be the proposal moved by the scientists of the Caspian Branch of the P. P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Authors of the project told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent about their achievements and plans for the future.

Jointly with the LLC, the Institute has presented its innovation project - an underwater remotely operated searching and monitoring complex for making studies of the Caspian Sea.

"The complex was repeatedly tested at underwater works, both in the Caspian Sea and in the rivers of the region," the project authors have explained. "It is a sort of underwater television eyes. The operator who is on the surface uses a joystick to move the device in the desired direction and films or monitors the underwater world."

Another project deals with artificial reefs intended for complex protection of marine environment. Experiments show that the surface of artificial reefs installed in the sea was intensively encrusted with marine growth and microorganisms, capable to clean the sea environment from polluting substances, including hydrocarbons. In the reef area, the feeding stock of many fishes is accumulated through increase of the population of proper microorganisms.
