Opposition gives up the idea to hold congress of Ingush people

Magomed Khazbiev, leader of the Ingush opposition, said that since President of Ingushetia Yunus-Bek Evkurov has resumed performing his duties, there is no reason to hold the congress.

Let us remind you that earlier the "Caucasian Knot" reported that the Ingush opposition had insisted to convoke an extraordinary congress of the Ingush people in the context of the attempt on the President Yunus-Bek Evkurov. The main purpose of the congress would have been "to rally the nation." Also, the agenda meant to include the issue of who should govern the republic. The ex-president of Ingushetia Ruslan Aushev did not support the idea of the congress. Rashid Gaisanov, acting President, had also opposed this idea.

According to Mr Khazbiev, now President Evkurov is in normal condition. "He has recovered and is coming back to the republic. The congress, first of all, was planned in the context of Kadyrov's statements (about bringing things to order in Ingushetia, - comment of the "Caucasian Knot"); however, since Evkurov will continue his work there, the congress is not necessary," the oppositionist has explained.

He has added that the situation in Ingushetia worsens day after day. Further actions of the opposition will depend on Evkurov's behaviour. Magomed Khazbiev could not exclude rallies.

The source of the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent used the word "war" in describing what happens in the republic. "Everybody benefits from this war, starting from the federal centre and down to the smallest Ingush bureaucrat, except for ordinary Ingush people. On that very day, when the Kremlin no longer needs the war, it will be over. Like it was with South Ossetia, the country leaders will solve the problem in one day," Mr Khazbiev is sure.
