Georgia marks no changes on the border with South Ossetia
The Georgian party has noted no special movements of Russian and South-Ossetian militaries after the decision of President of South Ossetia to close the border; local residents continue to cross the border, although the situation remains restless.
Let us remind you that today from the midnight the border of South Ossetia with Georgia is closed by the order of South-Ossetian President Eduard Kokoity.
Nodar Abzhandadze, chairman of local self-government of the Sachkheri District of Georgia (the district borders on the Dzhava District of South Ossetia) said today to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that in the vicinity of Perevi village people are crossing the border as usually, and in the vicinity of Sinaguri village there is no traffic, but there was no traffic there before.
According to his story, no movement of Russian militaries was noted.
Expert and political scientist Paata Zakareishvili has also noted that local residents notice no movements of militaries. According to his story, a full closure of the border is a practically unreal task, Russian armed forces are not enough for this purpose.
Arina Tavakarashvili, a representative of the UN monitoring group on refugees, said in her conversation with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the border is still open, but the situation "is highly heated".
T. Giguashvili, a resident of Tkviavi village, Gori District of Georgia, has also confirmed that the border is open.
Earlier, the South-Ossetian party has stated that on August 3 from the area of Plavi village in Georgia three mortar shots were made on the South-Ossetian village of Otrev. Two days earlier, on August 1, Tskhinvali had stated that from the territory of Georgia an observation point of the Ministry of Defence of South Ossetia was shelled from a mortar. Georgia has rejected the information of the South-Ossetian party and states that it was South Ossetia that shelled Georgian police posts.
