South Ossetia accuses Georgia of shelling a MoD post

An observation post of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of South Ossetia was shelled today in the morning from the territory of Georgia. Two grenades were shot at the post from a grenade launcher.

According to Yuri Tanaev, Minister of Defence of South Ossetia, the incident took place at 9:25 a.m. Moscow time. "From the side of the Georgian village of Ditsi two grenade launcher shots were made on the observation post of the MoD of South Ossetia, located near the Eredvi village," the ITAR-TASS quotes the Minister as saying.

Fortunately, the shelling caused no casualties or victims. The "Interfax" reports with reference to Ibragim Gasseev, Deputy Minister of Defence of South Ossetia, that now the venue is studied by the operative-investigatory group of local law enforcement bodies.

Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia has disseminated a statement, running that the leaders of Georgia have failed to take lessons from the last year's events and are again scaling up their military presence near to borders with South Ossetia.

So far, nothing is known about reaction of the Georgian party to the incident and charges in connection therewith.
