Karassin: Georgia refuses to sign nonaggression treaties on South Ossetia and Abkhazia

At a meeting with journalists dated to the first anniversary of the August events in South Ossetia, Grigoriy Karassin, Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, said that Russia had offered Georgia, through international intermediaries, to sign a document entailing prohibition of warfare in the territory of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, but Georgia refused to sign it.

According to Mr Karassin, Georgia offers Russia to sign another document related to prohibition of military actions between Russia and Georgia, as reported by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

He also said that provocations of the Georgian party, aimed to scale up tension in the region, are incessant; and he could not exclude new provocations on the anniversary of the August events of 2008.

President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili, in his turn, said in his interview to a French TV channel, fragments of which were shown today by the Georgian TV, that Georgia "never had and has no intent to war on Russia, as it would be a suicide for the country."
