Sabail Court of Baku rejects bloggers' appeal against police

Today, the Sabail District Court of the city of Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, under the chairmanship of Famil Nasibov, rejected the complaint submitted by young bloggers Adnan Gadjizade and Emin Milli against the actions of the Sabail District Police.

Isakhan Ashurov, Mr Gadjizade's advocate has noted in his conversation with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the complaint was submitted in the context of "violation of bloggers' rights at detention on July 8, late access of advocates to them and non-provision of the necessary medical aid."

Therefore, the complaint demanded to recognize the policemen's actions illegal and punish them.

However, Judge Nasibov has found the complaint ungrounded. "It was unfair trial. Without any slightest grounds the trial and announcement of the decision were held in closed regime. Moreover, the claimants themselves were not brought to the hearings. But which is most important: the judge failed to explain the reasons of his refusal to satisfy the complaint," said Mr Ashurov.

He has emphasized that the court even ignored "the video depicting violations of detainees' rights by the police," presented by the advocates.

Both Judge Nasibov and bosses of the Sabail District Court refused to give any comments and evaded any dialogue with the press.
