Social shelter for refugees from Azerbaijan and Iraq opened in Armenia

In Armenia, in Darbnik village, Ararat District, a social shelter was opened for 46 families of Armenian refugees from Azerbaijan and Iraq. The house was granted to them for gratuitous use.

The action was sponsored by the UN Programme on Refugees and mobile operator "Viva-Cell-MTS". The three-storey building comprises one- and two-room apartments.

Muna Barsegyan came to Armenia from Iraq two years ago and had no housing until now. "Today, I have much less problems, the one remaining - how to feed my family," she said.

Now Armenia counts 360,000 refugees deported from Azerbaijan in early 1990s and about 1000 refugees from Iraq.
