In Armenia, Dzhermuk to be a year-round tourist centre

In the near future, a concept of a tourist centre in the city of Dzhermuk will be submitted to the government of Armenia; according to the concept, this resort will become an international-standard year-round tourist centre.

The concept was designed by local and foreign specialists. Transformation of Dzhermuk into a tourist centre was one of the major points in the electoral programme of President Serzh Sargsyan.

This April, the government of Armenia approved the 2009 tourism development programme and allocated 200 million drams thereto. The programme has five directions: works in information-and-advertising sphere, including Armenia's participation in international tourist exhibitions; making and permanent update of video clips about Armenia; holding actions aimed to attract tourists to Armenia; organization of foreign tour operators' visits; and fulfilment of Armenia's international obligations.

  • Students demand to release actors detained at protests in Tbilisi

    In Tbilisi, protesters intentionally went out into the streets wearing masks, thereby violating the recently introduced ban. Students from two universities have joined the demands to release actors Andro Chichinadze and Vepkhiya Kasradze, who are accused of participating in group violence.
