Chechen militia is actively against tinted car glasses

Highways of Chechnya are again at "war" on cars with tinted glasses. GIBDD (State Traffic Safety Inspectorate) agents stop cars and right in situ remove tinting film from glasses. This is the way local GIBDD bosses react to President Kadyrov's command of July 6 to get tougher in fighting against car tinted glasses.

"Tinted glasses reduce driver's field of view, and accordingly increase the risk and probability of an accident. Another factor to keep in mind is that cars with tinted glasses can be used by members of IAFs (illegal armed formations) in their mercenary aims directed against people," said Mr Kadyrov at a meeting with the GIBDD boss, which was put on local TV.

By removing tinting film from car glasses, the Chechen GIBDD agents even ignore the fact that in many cases the tinting is within the admissible 70 percent. "We've been given a task, and we fulfil it. Go with your questions to our bosses," this was the reaction of one of the agents to the question on the legitimacy of forced removal of toning film.

Naturally, car drivers are not happy from this new GIBDD endeavour. "It's complete lawlessness. If you ask, they at once refer to Ramzan Kadyrov's order. Why shouldn't then Kadyrov remove tinting films from the cars of his cortege and numerous securities?" asked Salavdi, a resident of Grozny.
