European public excited with implications of attempt on President of Ingushetia

Europeans are worried of possible consequences for Ingushetia of today's attempt on Yunus-Bek Evkurov, and of the way the incident can be interpreted. This was stated by Eleonora Aloyan, a Freedom House representative.

Today in the afternoon in Strasbourg, Magomed Mutsolgov, head of the Independent Non-Commercial Organization "Mashr", and Oleg Orlov, chair of the board of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", gave a press conference.

Eleonora Aloyan, manager of the project "American Committee for Peace in the Caucasus" of the Freedom House, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the main topic of the event was the today's attempt on the President of Ingushetia Yunus-Bek Evkurov.

According to Ms Aloyan, the deputy block ALDE (Alliance of Liberals and Democrats in Europe) was the organizer of the press conference, aiming to draw attention to the situation with human rights in Northern Caucasus.

"We've noticed that when attention of foreign public to this situation grows somewhat weaker, a trend get manifested in the Caucasus towards use of illegitimate measures, such as kidnappings, torture, etc.," said Ms Aloyan.

She has noted that the general conclusion of the press conference was the idea that attention of the public, in particular, in Europe, should be drawn to events in the Caucasus.
