Construction of pipeline from Iran to Armenia will start this year
Till the end of this year, the parties plan to start building the pipeline intended for transportation of gasoline and diesel fuel from Iran to Armenia. The pipeline of 380 kilometres will link the Iranian city of Tabriz and the Armenian city of Eraskh.
The project budget makes 250 million US dollars. The expenses will be born by the Iranian party, provided Armenia pays half of the costs in future. Both countries take part in the project on equal terms.
Stepan Grigoryan, head of the Analytical Centre on Globalization and Regional Cooperation, said to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the pipeline for supplying fuel from Iran to Armenia will solve a number of major problems, in particular, the problem of an alternative route of fuel delivery for Armenia. Besides, this project will contribute to better cooperation between two neighbouring countries - Armenia and Iran.
Now, fuel is delivered to Armenia via Georgian ports of Poti and Batumi - from Romania, Ukraine and other countries.
