In Azerbaijan, explosion case in "Abu-Bekr" Mosque sent to court

The criminal case dealing with explosion in "Abu-Bekr" Mosque on August 17, 2008, has arrived for consideration to the Court on Grave Crimes of Azerbaijan. Then, a grenade thrown into the Mosque during the evening prayer killed 2 and wounded 13 believers.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed at the Court's office that 26 defendants will face trial, among them - the following citizens of Azerbaijan: Elnur Bashirov, Gudrat Melikov, Khalid Velimetov, Ulfat Melikov, Vakhid Asadov, Zabit Shikhbabaev, Fariz Mamedov, Samir Babaev, Anar Velimetov, Rasim Iskenderov, Elshan Allakhverdiev, Rafig Agadzhanov, Talekh Magerramov, Teimur Narimanov, Bozorgi Kyamran, Azer Bagyshev, Musa Orudzhev, Alexander Nuraliev, Mamed Mamedov, Elkhan Osmanov, Zaur Dzhafarov, Rufat Rzaev and Sardar Bunyatov.

The prisoner's dock will also house a Russia citizen Magomed Isaev and citizens of Turkey Yamin Aliev and Ezdemir Ergin. They are all kept at the Investigatory Isolation Facility of the Ministry of National Security (MNS).

The defendants are charged with establishment of illegal armed formations, terrorism, premeditated murders, illegal storage of firearms, illegal border-crossing, rendering resistance to power bodies and faking official documents and state seals.

There are 18 victims and 92 witnesses figuring in the case.

  • Rescuers report 10 killed at fuelling station in Makhachkala
