Military prosecutors of Chechnya investigate Benoy shelling
Military inspectors are clearing the circumstances of shelling Benoy village, Vedeno District, committed by federal troops from long-range artillery back at night on May 4, but still very poorly covered. On May 26, this issue was discussed by Chechen Parliament.
"Inspectors of the Military Office of Public Prosecutor are clearing the circumstances of the incident that took place at night on May 4, when the artillery of federal troops by mistake made several shots aside Benoy village of the Vedeno District. Then, as a result of explosion of one of the shells inside the village, two local residents were wounded, one private house was destroyed and another - seriously damaged," a source at the Republic's Military Commandant's Office has reported.
According to preliminary data, the federal artillery was shelling an area where militants could be hiding who had earlier attacked law enforcers. "Most likely, by mistake of a gun-layer, some four-five shells hit the vicinity and Benoy village," said the source.
