The son of well-know poet Adallo Aliyev arrested in Dagestan

At 7 a.m. today, a search has been conducted in Makhachkala in the house at 3, Siniavin Street where Adallo Aliyev, a well-known Dagestan poet, lives. Upon its completion, militiamen from Lenin district militia of the Dagestan capital have taken Gamzat, the poet's youngest son, to the militia station.

Aliyev has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the search was conducted in the presence of witnesses who are the poet's neighbors. The militiamen did not introduce themselves and claimed that their personal data would be reflected in the search report. They explained the reason for the search by available information to the effect that a pistol had been hidden in the Aliyev's flat which was used on May 21 for murdering Seifudin Kaziahmedov, chief of the division for especially serious cases of the Investigatory Department under the Russian Prosecutor's Office for the Republic of Dagestan.

The militiamen were behaving in a correct manner but failed to leave behind the search report for reference. When leaving, they took away the poet's youngest son Gamzat Aliyev claiming that "it is the proper way". The fact of his detainment has been confirmed at the Lenin district militia station but no comments have been given.

Adallo Aliyev himself has repeatedly claimed that his family is persecuted by the power authorities due to his past and his political views. In particular, unidentified persons in plain clothes started following Magomed Aliyev, his other son in 2007, and stopped it only after Adallo Aliyev met with Mukhu Aliyev, president of Dagestan.

Adallo Aliyev, along with Rasul Gamzatov, is considered classic of Avar poetry. He is the author of more than thirty books in the Avarian, Russian and Turkish languages. However, his works are not studied at general schools of Dagestan, the pages with the poet's verses were deleted from all text-books in 1999. At the republic's radio, the audio library of the songs with the text written by the poet was destroyed, too.
