Rostov Region: Zverevo miners-pensioners resume hunger strike

Valery Dyakonov, a deputy of the city duma of Zverevo, Rostov Region, informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that miners-pensioners of his city who fight for preservation of their heating privileges have resumed their hunger strike and picket in the city centre.

"We sent notifications about these protest actions to the Mayoralty," Valery Dyakonov has explained. "Like before, five persons will be hunger-striking."

According to Mr Dyakonov, the city court continues passing decisions against miners, making inventory of their property. "Besides, the number of those who want to strive for justice at the European Court on Human Rights grows; residents of other cities of the Rostov Region join us. It's difficult to count up the number of claims lodged. At least two hundred, I can say for sure," the deputy has noted.

In Valery Dyakonov's opinion, regional and local authorities hope that with time less and less residents of Zverevo will keep taking part in protest actions, and soon their number will come to naught. "People are certainly tired," he said, "the number of picketers is constantly decreasing; and action organizers continue to be pressed by authorities."
