Residents of Mairtup village in Chechnya report beatings of their fellow-villagers by power agents

In the village of Mairtup, Kurchaloy District of Chechnya, power agents have violently beaten two local residents. One of the villagers told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the incident took place last Saturday, on May 16. Local residents believe it to be arbitrariness.

The reason of the incident was in actions of a local resident, who was turning his car and occasionally blocked the road to a column of several cars with employees of unknown power agencies.

"They started beating him and threatened to shoot dead. A man who lives beside saw it, went out of his house and demanded to stop the execution, saying that they have arms to defend people, not to scoff at them. He was also attacked and cruelly beaten. His head was injured by pistol handles. When residents of nearby houses ran out to the noise, these power agents jumped into their cars and quickly left," said a resident of Mairtup.

According to his story, people are extremely indignant with what happened and treat the incident as complete lawlessness and arbitrariness. "I don't think the victims will complain anywhere, since there's no reason. Nobody will ever find and punish the culprits, nobody will even look for them," said the source.

Law-enforcement bodies refused to give any comments, saying that no applications have ever arrived against any illegitimate actions of power agents in Mairtup village.
