On September 19 at their meeting in Sukhumi Abkhazian Foreign Minister Sergey Shamba and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Georgia Heidi Tagliavini discussed issues concerned with the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict settlement.

It should be noted that a Georgian-Abkhazian meeting on the guarantees of security and nonrenewal of military operations is to be held in Tbilisi on September 23. The parties will state their vision of the security guaranties during the meeting.

According to the words of Shamba, who will be a head of the Abkhazian delegation at the meeting in Tbilisi, large work is being made now by the Abkhazian delegation to prepare for this meeting. In addition to the meeting in Tbilisi, the head of the Abkhazian foreign policy department and Kofi Annan's representative spoke about a forthcoming arrival of 20 UN Civilian Police in the zone of the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict.

The decision on the arrival of UN Police was made in Geneva during a meeting of the Group of Friends of the UN Secretary-General on Georgia this summer. UN Police will advise officials of law-enforcement agencies of Georgia's Gali and Zugdidi districts, which are situated near the frontier, and monitor their activity.
