4th world congress of International Association of Abkhazian-Abazin People took place in Sukhumi on September 29
More than 200 delegates and guests from Russia, Turkey, and Germany participated in the congress.
"Our goal is sovereign democratic Abkhazia" - this was the name of the summary report of Association President Taras Shamba. The following fields of the Association executive committee's activity were pronounced to be the main ones:
the formation of the Abkhazian national idea, which must unite the Abkhazian people in different states;
the organization of trips and meetings of Association executive committee members with compatriots living in many countries of the world;
regular meetings with authorities of federal organs, legislative and executive authorities of Russia, Turkey, Israel, Syria, European states;
the organization of round table discussions, meetings with state public cultural workers, journalists; assistance to creative groups, literati, musicians, artists from the Republic of Abkhazia.
Members of the Abkhazian-Abazin Diaspora live in 54 countries of the world today.
