In Kalmykia, authorities notice municipal hunger-strikers

After the "Caucasian Knot" published a news item about the protest action of municipal workers in the Iki-Burul District of Kalmykia, they were visited by representatives of various media and power bodies. The hunger-strikers told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent about it.

Officials from the District Municipal Formation (DMF) and local municipal administration talked with the hunger-strikers and said that their issue of salary debts could have been solved in some different way, without taking such extraordinary methods, "which dishonour not only the Iki-Burul District but Kalmykia as a whole."

The protesters were also visited by Mr Davanov, Deputy of the National Hural (Parliament) of Kalmykia. However, no reaction of the MP has followed after the meeting, as the hunger-strikers said.

Yesterday, on November 24, the hunger-strikers were invited to the head of the Iki-Burul District Mr Bazyrov. They promise to go on with their protest actions should the authorities fail to fulfil their demands in full.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported that Kalmykia, according to the Russian State Statistics Committee, was ranked the last among Russian regions by revenues per capita.
