Mine explodes and wounds two policemen in Zugdidi District

Today in the morning, in Zugdidi District of Georgia, two policemen were wounded as a result of a mine explosion on the bridge near Khurcha village.

Last Sunday, on September 21, the Georgian party reported a shelling in the same village, as a result of which one Georgian policeman was killed and two more wounded. The Abkhazian party denies any involvement in the incident.

According to "Interfax", today Georgian policemen undermined themselves by an anti-tank mine. They were hospitalized.

The Radio Liberty reports, with reference to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Georgia, the police unit was patrolling the Georgian-Abkhazian administrative border.

On September 21, Laurens Kogoniya, head of the District Interior Department of the pre-border Gali District of Abkhazia, categorically rejected any involvement of the Abkhazian party in shelling the policemen.

He also noted that there was no threat to Zugdidi District from the territory of Abkhazia; however, there was no telling of the same about the Georgian party.

Mr Kogoniya reminded that in August-September three citizens of Abkhazia perished - two frontier guards and one civilian, two more frontier guards were wounded. The Abkhazian party believes that Georgian special agencies were involved in the incidents.
