Armenia: opposition to hold rally after lifting the state of emergency

The opposition of Armenia plans to hold a rally on March 21, immediately after removal of the state of emergency. In compliance with the current legislation, oppositionists are planning to notify the Mayoralty of Yerevan about the rally. The "Caucasian Knot" has learnt about it from the source close to the Armenian opposition.

At the same time, the source could not exclude that, in view of the behaviour of the authorities, the state of emergency can be prolonged. He has expressed his bewilderment with the fact that despite the international pressure exerted for 10 days already, the leaders of the country go on with their repressive policy and still preserve the state of emergency. For the second day now, all the TV Channels are announcing the police statement about search of two MPs deprived of their parliamentary immunity: Khachatur Sukiasyan and Sasun Mikaelyan, and Nikol Pashinyan, member of the election office of Ter-Petrosyan.

The "Caucasian Knot" was informed in Ter-Petrosyan's election office that today 190 activists of the opposition are behind bars.

Human rights activist Mikael Danielyan, chairman of the Helsinki Association, had told the "Caucasian Knot" that all the arrests are of purely political character.
