US and EU congratulate Armenia on democratic election

The government of Armenia has received congratulations on "active and competitive" presidential election from the US Department of State of the USA and Chairmanship of the European Union.

"The USA take into account the provisional opinion of the ODIHR and OSCE Parliamentary Assembly that the election 'had mainly met the standards of democratic elections'. At the same time, we also take into account that international observers have revealed essential problems related to electoral procedures. We also call all the political forces of Armenia to remain within the bounds of the law, to act peacefully and responsibly for the sake of democratic Armenia," Tom Casey, official representative of the US Department of State, remarks in his congratulation.

Mr Casey has called on the government of Armenia to ensure transparency of the process of vote re-tabulation, to study all potential discrepancies, and to take measures to improve future elections.

A similar appeal was disseminated by the EU Chairmanship. It also runs that "the EU is waiting for the final results of the presidential election and calls the authorities to ensure an adequate investigation of the complaints and elimination of drawbacks," the "Gazeta.Ru" reports.

  • Two natives of Northern Caucasus injured in shootout near “Wildberries” office in Moscow

    A shootout took place near an office of the “Wildberries” Company in the centre of Moscow. As a result, at least one person has been killed and several others have been wounded, sources report.   • In Volgograd, court recognizes absence of HIV therapy in prison hospital

    The Central District Court of Volgograd awarded prisoner Ruslan Mitrofan compensation in the amount of 1000 roubles, recognizing that the administration of a prison hospital in Volgograd violated the prisoner’s right to receive medical care by not providing him with an HIV medicine.
