Kondopoga: convicts for pogroms of trading points belonging to Caucasian natives can appeal against the verdict

The advocates of the persons condemned for instigation of mass disorders in the city of Kondopoga, which resulted from a fight between local residents and natives from the Caucasus, intend to appeal against the verdict should their clients agree to it.

In their turn, the relatives of the convicts and the local residents who suffered from the fight also disagree with the court verdict, the IA Regnum informs.

Margarita Slizova, mother of Gregory Slizov who was killed at night of August 30, 2006, during the fight, has treated the verdict to the participants of mass disorders in Kondopoga to be severe. Ms Slizova has stated that she thinks it "unfair when twelve boys have been made responsible for the whole city."

We note here that the administration of Kondopoga will not demand compensation of the damage caused to the municipal property, although it made about 1.5 million roubles.

We remind you that on October 26 the Kondopoga City Court sentenced 12 defendants in the case on mass disorders to three years of conditional imprisonment. Their actions were qualified under Part 2, Articles 212, of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation in mass disorders, accompanied by pogroms and property arsons), which envisages the maximal punishment of up to eight years of imprisonment. The defendants were accused of pogroms and arsons of shops belonging to the natives from the Caucasus on September 2, 2006.
