Armenians of the world mark Memory Day of genocide victims

On April 24, the Memory Day of the victims of Armenians' genocide in Ottoman Empire of 1915-1922, all cities, towns and villages of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as the foreign countries, which have Armenian Diasporas, hold traditional mourning actions in memory of 1.5 million genocide victims.

In his today's address to the Armenian people on the occasion of the 94th anniversary of Armenians' genocide, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan has stated that crimes against humanity have no time limit either in peoples' memory or before the tribunal of history.

Let us note here that the march to the memorial of genocide victims in Tsitsernakaberde began from early morning on April 24. By the present moment, the memorial was visited by dozens of thousands of people; the march to the monument continues; people lay flowers and wreaths to the eternal flame. At 11 a.m., the tribute to victims of genocide was given by President Serzh Sargsyan with spouse, Prime Minister Tigran Sarkisyan, Vice-Speaker Arevik Petrosyan, MPs, members of the government, and officials of the diplomatic corps accredited in Armenia. Among the participants of the memorial march, people of medium and elderly age, and a lot of youth are present.

Today, mourning marches were held in Paris, Lyons, Athens, Amsterdam and other cities of the world.

We remind you that as a result of Armenians' genocide, executed by the government of Young Turks and started on April 24, 1915, with liquidation of Armenian intellectuals; then, under the lee of deportation, they killed over 1.5 million Armenians, and about 600,000 more were forced to leave their historical homeland and dispersed all over the world.

The fact of Armenians' genocide in Ottoman Empire of 1915-1922 was recognized by 42 states of the USA, and school textbooks on history of these states have chapters on genocide of Armenians in Ottoman Empire. As of today, the genocide was recognized by 21 countries, among them: Canada, Argentina, Switzerland, Russia, Belgium, France, Poland, Slovakia, Netherlands, Uruguay, Greece, Cyprus, Vatican and others.
